Rimowa, Sandro, Beams Plus, Bedrock Sandal, Who Decides War
EDITOR’S NOTE
I felt 60 degree weather yesterday!!! Fall fricken’ fashion is on the horizon, people. Take those fisherman sandals and linen pieces out to play ASAP before they get tucked away for hibernation.
Anyway, let’s tap into today.
LUXURY
(Overpriced) Bar-setter
There are lots of luggage-makers with brand equity: Tumi, Samsonite, Away. But there is something altogether different about the look of an aluminum Rimowa Cabin. These bags have a lifetime guarantee on functional repairs, so they are investment pieces that buck the owner’s depreciation curve when he drives one off the lot. With no zippers to jam, a guarantee to get broken wheels fixed, and a truly iconic look, this is the piece of luggage I’m thinking about first when my current Tumi carry on goes down.
WORKWEAR
New Off-roader
Bedrock Sandals has three new colorways for their Mountain Clogs: Driftwood Gray (pictured), Deep Plum, and Ponderosa Brown. These versatile shoes are extremely comfortable and functional, but they’re not scoring any real style points. Despite the looks, the combination of a Vibram outsole, nubuck leather and wearable comfort makes them a realistically great option for any outdoor activity. The new colors expand the collection to seven options, featuring a durable design and superior Vibram grip for various terrains.
STREETWEAR
PhD in Embellished Denim
The absolute masters of embellished denim, Who Decides War out of New York City has jeans like you’ve never seen before (rivaled only by Denim Tears). WDW brings us the Chalice Embellished Jeans with embroidery, patches, lace, rhinestones, and distressing. That on top of all the usually necessities of a real, wearable jean: zip closure, five pockets and machine washable. The statement of all statements in the denim category are made right here in New York.
FORMAL WEAR
Modern Derby
The Sandro square-toe leather Derby shoes are a sleek choice for those who want to stay within the confines of formal wear while keeping the presentation in 2024. Made from smooth leather, these chunky shoes feature a distinct square toe that appropriately pares down what Demna has taken to the extreme at Balenciaga. It’s an of-the-moment twist of the classic Derby design. The lace-up front ensures a snug fit, making them a solid pick for both work and formal outings. These shoes are a great way to freshen up your style without going overboard on trends.
OFFICE WEAR
The Sweater Vest
I don’t think that many of us reading this can pull off the Aran Sweater Vest from Beams Plus the way this model can. But can we put it on over a button down? I think so. In my preaching that the PEV (private equity vest) does not represent the relegation of all vests to the style doldrums, a well-crafted cotton and flax sweater vest with the right coloring and detail might be the antidote to a snake-bitten category. While running the risk of being cheesy, I see great potential in this piece for guys that are willing to take some risk.
ONE LAST THING….
Ambush x Dunkin
The experimental and agile Japanese brand AMBUSH somehow got involved with Dunkin’ Donuts to create a tye dye tea and other DD-colored items that are all doing it for me. Founder Yoon Ahn went to Boston University, so I guess that’s where the synergy comes from. The $350 windbreaker also delivers.
