EDITOR’S NOTE
I have two days left of my first — hopefully of many — work-sponsored, two-week August break (also branded by friends as ‘Coco Recess’). My reflections on these two weeks are (i) every company should do this, and (ii) I am really good at time off, especially when it’s paid.
Things accomplished in recess include but are not limited to:
Watching two Red Sox games at Fenway
Figuring out I fit into some old pairs of pants
Painting a canvas with acrylic
Reading the entirety of London Falling by Patrick Radden Keefe
Almost missing a flight from Asheville, NC back to NYC
If you can find a company with such vacation perks, I’d invite you to apply.
Anyway, let’s tap into today.
LUXURY
Understated Spice
This is a tasty long-sleeve. Silk threads run through cotton to lift this polo into quiet luxury. A ribbed collar holds its shape and a clean button placket keeps the front spare. Brown reads formal in a way solid colors rarely do.
Soft suede wrapped around a rubber sole with barely any heel—the kind of shoe that looks sharp and still feels like it belongs on your feet. Brown suede works with just about everything, and this model leans into simplicity. The kind of sneaker that works for formal wear.
WORKWEAR
Performance Sock
It may sound preposterous to have a dedicated sock for exercise, but this sock changed my mind on the matter. Forme Science sent me one pair of these for free, and I tried using them beneath my road biking shoes two weeks ago. Now I don’t even think about biking if these aren’t clean, dry and ready to go. I did a load of laundry one night b/c I wanted to bike the next day.
I find they hug my foot firmly, feel structured and are the perfect height to climb above your shoe height. Never knew I’d appreciate a sock so much, but here I am.
STREETWEAR
B/c it’s getting chillier at night
No further comment necessary… Get prepared.
FORMAL WEAR
American Trench Basics
Japanese weavers slow the loom to pull this 5 oz. cotton oxford cloth tight, then New England sewers turn it into a shirt built to last. Mother of pearl buttons sit on a point collar, a wide box pleat grounds the back, and spade pocket details carry craft. The fit runs roomy and true to size. A formal shirt that grows into itself with every wash.
Eighty-five percent cotton blended with 15 percent linen, milled in Japan and cut-sewn in LA by makers who still split the gap between summer ease and held shape. Mid-high rise, slight taper, true to size. Cotton keeps its form while linen opens to air and softens with wear, so the pant moves with you instead of fighting the heat. For warm months but dressed formal.
OFFICE WEAR
Merino Rugby Shirt
This rugby polo is cut from 87% merino wool with nylon for shape stability. Merino fibers don't hold odor, so you can wear it a couple times before washing (but not too many please). Cotton elbow pads reinforce where friction hits and show you know how to work with your hands when duty calls, and the double collar stands neat and full. Two colorways available; either one gets you through the work week without issue.
ONE LAST THING….
Caught Red Handed.
On Wednesday night, I had a tight turnaround between the end of the 4:10pm Red Sox game and a 7:45pm dinner reservation in the Back Bay. By the 10th inning it was a fair gamble that the Red Sox were going to lose after the Diamondbacks scored two runs to make it 7-5. Perfect time to head out and walk to the reservation, but also a perfect time to get caught red handed on NESN, unfaithfully leaving before the bottom of the 10th.
Photo evidence below. I swear I am a loyal fan…

(I’m beneath the score bug in the white short-sleeve JD Martinez jersey 🤦)
As always, thanks for reading!
