EDITOR’S NOTE

This week was rain boot szn in New York. Humid rain boot season. As I was evading members of the secret service ensuring a smooth week for UN diplomats in midtown, I was in fact getting wet both from the outside world and from inside my own clothes.

Great! Just great.

Anyway, let’s tap into today.

LUXURY
Niche.

Sage de Cret is a Japanese menswear brand combining tailoring traditions with innovative fabrics and finishes. Modern, utilitarian, and well-regarded among the people that care too much about clothes.

Sage de Cret

The SDC coverall jacket has a box shape, giving your frame lots of room to move. The patch pockets sit front and center, showing off sharp stitch lines, while a tape at the back lets us set the waist to how we want it. Made with 11oz cotton linen denim, the fabric feels smooth and firm, and as you wear it, it’ll get softer with each wash. Thanks to the linen in the denim, there’s a slight shine we don’t get from plain cotton, making this jacket stand out without going over the top.

This three-button jacket has a trim cut and gives a solid first look with clean lapels and neat darting. The surge wool linen blend outside brings a slight gloss and holds its shape, while the inner cotton lining adds a touch that feels a little old-school. The jacket feels light from the tumble process, so it’s easy on our shoulders and bends with us. While it starts with a bit of shine and crispness, the linen will soften and show some life the longer we wear it.

Alex Mill

Alex Mill’s boiled wool work jacket has a boxy shape that’s neat but not tight. The boiled wool keeps it firm to the touch and helps it hold its shape through wear. The olive shade pairs well with denim, khaki, or grey pants. With four patch pockets, it has enough space for daily carry without feeling bulky.

The Donegal crew neck sweater by Alex Mill is made from a soft wool with a speck knit that brings depth to the navy base. The cut is trim but still has some room, so we don’t feel trapped in it. Ribbed cuffs and hem help it keep shape through the day. Worn under a jacket or on its own, it works in a sharp but easy way.

STREETWEAR
😂 (Carrots by Anwar)

No notes. Absolutely no notes.

The motifs this guy chooses to go with for his 20-item-deep capsules have no rhyme or reason. I have no admiration or affinity for the Prius whatsoever. But then I see this trucker and think, “hell yeah.” Between the shirt and the trucker, this guy is officially on my radar.

WORKWEAR
Going There…

Uniqlo

Listen… this is intimate. But undergarments are too important to neglect. The AIRism briefs from Uniqlo are a chef’s kiss in an oft-forgotten category of menswear. They are made of poly and spandex for stretch, breath excellently, and are extremely light. I’m close a full-scale pivot away from 100% cotton briefs, and a light poly alternative seems to be the destination after a bit of research. I refuse to pay $38 per pair at Lululemon, so these $14 pairs appear to be the entry point if you are also leaving cotton behind. Please do write back to me if you’re interested in the next steps of this journey.

ONE LAST THING….
Black Mirror? Or Sick Tool?

Plaud.ai

I’ve been down a rabbit hole and back this week about this device, “Plaud Note Pro.” It’s the size of a credit card, sticks to the back of your phone by magnet, and records any meeting, conference or phone call with one push of a” It’s the size of a credit card, sticks to the back of your phone by magnet, and records any meeting, conference, or phone call with one push of a button.

The magic starts when you hook it up to your cellphone or computer. There, you have a searchable index of all call transcripts, AI synthesis of your meetings, consolidated next-step recommendations, and a good bit more that I don’t yet understand.

Part of me thinks this is too Orwellian. Just be present in your meetings and take notes. (Also is it entirely legal?) But part of me wonders how incredibly useful these solutions would be if I had it from Day 1 at a job… You could immediately have answers to questions that, without this, remain guesses at best.

What does the class think about Plaud? Are we in or out?

As always, thanks for reading!
