EDITOR’S NOTE

🚨🚨🚨 OFFICIAL STATEMENT 🚨🚨🚨

The editorial team at Today in Menswear, after fielding questions on the matter specifically, feels that it’s necessary to make official our stance on the “Meta Rayban Glasses.” As a trusted source for menswear and mens’ accessories, we feel as if it is well within our purview to weigh in and provide guidance to our flock.

The verdict: NO GO. They are chunky and clunky, and the incursion of technology to your beach day/walk in the sun/boat ride is lame. We are sticking to regular shades.

Anyway, let’s tap into today.

LUXURY
Hello to Nuan Cashmere

This is a small Portuguese label that’s making pieces from Mongolian cashmere and finishing them in Portugal. This stuff is minimal to a fault, with no logos, no noise, just great fabric. Even in June, this stuff is wearable.

Nuan

The Henley is knit from baby cashmere and has a piped contrast trim at the placket that gives it just enough shape without any noise. It sits well under a jacket or on its own, and the henley collar keeps it from reading as another plain crew. The cashmere here is the grade that actually justifies the word "soft" being used to describe it.

Nuan

Cut from ultra-fine baby cashmere sourced from Hircus goat kids, this tee is feather-light in a way that makes most cotton tees feel like burlap by comparison. The drape is clean and the weight is low enough to wear in June without a second thought. It pulls on easy and holds its shape through regular wear.

STREETWEAR
Sorry, I know this one’s expensive but come on…

Pancho & Lefty

Porter Classic is a Japanese label that takes its cues from vintage American denim and then does something Japan-specific with it. This zip-up jacket is made from 100% cotton and built in the sashiko boro tradition, a Japanese method of dense running stitches used to reinforce and patch cloth over decades (generations, even) of use. Two roomy, diagonal waist pockets and a chest pocket keep it functional, and the zip makes it easy to throw on and off. Made in Japan.

FORMAL WEAR
Little Things

In honor of the French Open final this weekend… This one’s pure silk, hand-rolled in Ireland, and cut at 8cm. That’s a width that sits right with a jacket lapel without looking like a costume. The navy ground and bone racket motif is quiet enough to work with a lot and specific enough to be worth noticing.

I generally don’t love espadrilles because I find they look cheap, but these are particularly well done. Named after the Portuguese beach town with the world's biggest waves, this espadrille is made there too. Fir suede on a moccasin-style upper sits over the classic jute midsole, This one beneath it also has a treaded rubber sole, which means it holds up better than the average canvas espadrille that I dislike. The forest green reads rich and earthy and works with chinos, linen trousers, or denim. Made in Portugal, gets better with age.

OFFICE WEAR
Linen Painter Paints

Schweddy Balls? It’s probably because of your pant fabric. Loving this linen blend option from the Scottish brand Uskees.

Uskees

Uskees makes workwear-shaped pieces from organic cotton and linen, and the 5021 painter pant is the clearest example of what they do. The fabric is a 55/45 organic cotton and linen blend and cut in a tapered leg that narrows toward the ankle. Triple-stitched seams throughout, a YKK zip fly, and four pockets round out the build. Loam is a warm brown and marble is a cooler off-white. Both read well in the office and off the clock.

ONE LAST THING….
Collars & Co. Store Opening

ABC

I was invited to the newest Collars & Co. store in the Upper West Side for an opening cocktail party. Jazz band, Hugo spritzes, founder-on-site. It was a nice time.

The founder, Justin, was on Shark Tank and got Mark Cuban to invest $300k into the brand for 10%, and it’s done well since. Seven stores now. The episode is pretty solid too! He gets jostled a bit by the sharks but holds his own well. You can watch here.

The company’s doing well now and had some nice linen shirts, shirt jackets and knits. You can check them out here.

As always, thanks for reading!
