Kangaroo skin is lighter and tougher than calf, with a tight grain that holds up well as it patinas. Viberg builds this one on their 1905 last with a full vegetable tanned lining and a Goodyear welted insole that molds to your foot over time. The oak bark tanned sole spends a year curing before it's even cut. $1,275, made in Canada.

Unlined, with the fine, even nap Janus suede is known for. Lighter and cooler toned, finished clean so it stays understated underfoot.

Same construction, warmer tobacco tone. The one to reach for with darker trousers.

Drawstring Salvador Pants, Mash Green Ripstop

Cotton ripstop with an elastic, drawstring waist. Roomy through the leg and already double washed, so it's soft off the rack. $88.

Ripstop Trousers, American Spirit

A step more tailored. Cotton ripstop with a bit of poly worked in for durability, cut in a relaxed straight leg with slash front pockets, welt pockets in back, and a button waist instead of a drawstring. $98.

Spread Collar Sport Shirt, Blue/Sage Micro Gingham Poplin

All natural poplin with a gingham scaled small enough to read as a solid from across a room. Slim cut, long shirttail meant to stay tucked, single needle stitching throughout. $175, on sale for $87.50.

There’s a million colors on this one, and of course the best ones aren’t available in the normal sizes. But there’s still meat on the bone here.

Side Tab Dress Trouser, Chocolate/Flax Glen Plaid Hopsack

Wool and linen hopsack woven in Yorkshire, cut slim with elasticized side tabs so you can skip the belt. Horn buttons, on seam pockets, made in Italy. $395, on sale for $197.50.

Listen, I’m not thrilled that people wear polyester and modal and other synthetics to the office. But people do. And as a mission-critical, forward-deployed scout for my readers, I am obliged to scan this part of the market too. Here’s some fairly palatable stuff going on at Rhone.

A performance cotton knit that splits the difference between polo and sweater. Three button placket, ribbed at the cuff and hem, enough structure to hold up in a meeting and enough give to wear out after. $138.

Effortless Oxford Button Down

Rhone's rework of the standard oxford, built to skip the stiffness and heat-trapping of the real thing. Button down collar, slim cut. $128 and in multiple colors.

My first reaction was that I find this bag to be egregious. Who would actually pay thousands of dollars for this (it’s >$6k), let alone go out with it. I get it for a photo or a home deco thing, but a handbag?

Nevertheless, I’ve learned that most great art looks ugly at first. Or at least makes you cringe, recoil a bit, or just tilt your head sideways, however imperceptibly. I certainly did a combination of those. So here I am sharing to #WidenOurHorizons.
