We missed an instant classic match b/c of the idiocy of US Open programming. There are like 20 courts on that campus, but they cram the best people on Ashe and wait to start the evening session as late as 8:15pm. I don’t care if people in California are at work still!

Ike Behar is an American shirtmaker with three generations of family history. Hand-finished details, single-needle construction, made-in-USA items, the whole nine. Real boutique caliber stuff, and their summer shirting is mostly on sale right now.

Good entry point to a great brand that gets zero press.

Built from 100% Italian linen hand-finished by artisans. The dark olive is soft and matte, with enough texture to hold shape without stiffness. This sits in that rare zone where linen looks sharp from day one and gets better with wear. Single-needle stitching, mother-of-pearl buttons. Made in Italy since 1957.

Same construction as above (100% Italian linen, hand-finished) in a vertical stripe that reads clean and spare. The tan and white pair has real visual weight without being loud. Lightweight enough for resort wear or warm city days, but the hand-finishing and button details give it enough craft to layer into better looks. Made in Italy.

Brut trousers was the proposition, and I liked what I found. Real materials, valid heritage claims, and French design. That’s a trio I’m backing.

100% cotton HBT woven with real texture, these sit high and easy through the waist with a relaxed fit that doesn't sag. The herringbone twill hits 9.4 oz, thick enough to hold a crease all day but light enough to move. Plain front cut, zipper fly with a hidden hook, and welted back pockets keep detail simple. Built from the BRUT archives, this is a vintage French army chino cut loose and high through the thigh, tapering only at the cuff. The cotton weighs 10.6 oz and stays rigid, breaking in slow and gaining soft edges with wear. Single pleat up front, button fly, coin pocket, and jetted back pockets make this pant sit right between workwear and dress code.

Built from 100% hemp at 10 oz weight, this tee cuts wide through the sleeves and hits near the elbow in a vintage sportswear silhouette. The garment-dyed hemp softens with age and wears better each wash. The relaxed fit moves easy and the slub texture adds visual depth. Made in Los Angeles.

This long-sleeve tee blends 55% hemp with 45% organic cotton at 10 oz, creating a piece that works like a light sweatshirt but breathes like jersey. Cut from 100% super 150s wool at 270 gsm, these hold shape without stiffness. Double pleat through the high rise, with room through the thigh that settles into a clean line below the knee. Dark blue reads formal or warm-weather business, made in Italy from a house that has built its name on trouser craft since 1962. Dry clean only.

Disclaimer: this was given to me by the brand for free. Unsolicited, I wrote about their rugby shirts a few weeks ago. You guys seemed to like it, so I was happy to dip into their Fall/Winter catalog upon request and dispossess them of a jacket in time for 50 and 60 degree weather.

This navy blue waxed jacket from the catalog is crispy. It’s going to take a sec to break in because it’s genuinely waxed. The pockets are plentiful and well placed. And it’s unlined, so it can range from sitting atop a tee to sitting beneath a more robust coat. I’m eager to see what my favorite combos are, but I know I’ll be reaching for this the second the weather gets into the 60s.

This is a waxed chore coat built to work both in and out of the office. The 100% cotton is milled in England by British Millerain and finished with a dry wax that sheds light rain without feeling stiff. The cut is tailored enough to wear over dress shirts and chinos, with a chest pocket sized for a phone and underarm mesh zippers you can open or close depending on the room. The coat runs slightly large, so size down if you want a cleaner fit (I got a medium). Machine wash cold and hang to dry, and the wax deepens with age.
