EDITOR’S NOTE
What’s the good word? What’s a piece or a brand or a category you want me to look into this weekend for the newsletter? Replies go right to my personal inbox, and I’d love to hear what TIM is missing for you.
Anyway, let’s tap into today.
LUXURY
BR Suede
Billy Reid's new Rivermont Suede Jacket in is a standout for fall. The jacket features a soft suede outer, button closure, and an unassuming notched lapel. The dark green hue adds rich tones to any outfit, while the two front pockets (is this chore coat passing??) offer a lot of function. This is perfect for layering — a jacket to easily dress up a casual look or add a rugged edge to more formal attire. Hot.
WORKWEAR
Vintage Filson Field Jacket
Filson's Vintage Field Guide Shirt is a rugged number crafted from heavy canvas, built for outdoor pursuits. With a button-front design and double chest pockets, there’s both class and utility. Its durable fabric and classic cut make it versatile enough for everything from field work to casual wear. This XL-sized shirt is a rework from Gumtree Golf & Nature Club (see the branding above left chest pocket), an Aussie-born New Yorker’s brand.
STREETWEAR
Mr. Fallback
The pant that you can rely on when your fit is centered around a noisy/statement top. Dickies' Original 874 Work Pants are a staple in men's work and streetwear. The high-rise waist and slightly tapered leg have been around since 1967, and they still fit into our modern landscape with ease. Made from durable twill fabric that wears in over time, they're built to last and come in a range of colors and sizes. It’s key to note that they’re $29, which leaves more money in your wallet to splurge into splashy tops, shoes or accessories.
FORMAL WEAR
Rugby Shirts
For better or for worse, so much timeless menswear derives from the recreational hobbies and preferences of elites: Polo shirts, Oxford shirts, sport coats, loafers and… rugby shirts. The latter no longer screams elitism as loud as the rest, and that’s wonderful because they’re a super versatile shirt. Sure, you may be going to watch your cousin’s actual Rugby match at Brown, but you’d be equally justified wearing one of these to a cocktail bar if you ask me. J. Press has a collection of four Rugby shirts in his new season, on sale now (the BC colors in the one pictured is 10/10).
OFFICE WEAR
Return of Wool
A key to having good cold weather gear is actually having it in your closet on the day you need it. One reason is that the umbrella’s always cost more if you’re buying during a downpour. That’s what makes the sale on this Rodd and Gunn wool coat perplexing. 40% off a twill peacoat in a versatile charcoal double-breasted form… tap in.
ONE LAST THING….
Zuck’s Stylist 😒
This guy continues to be a nightmare. When releasing Meta’s new AR glasses (which, to his credit, are 80% of Apple Vision Pro for 10% of the cost), he wore a shirt that looks like it belongs in a Jerry Lorenzo Essential’s throw away pile. He’s also leaned hard into the shaggy hair look, which I guess is an improvement from this low bar. Idk… I guess I just wish they did what normal companies do and hire hot PR people to do the public-facing work.
