EDITOR’S NOTE

Be nice to other people! It’s easy and fulfilling.

Anyway, let’s tap into today.

LUXURY
Simply the best Menswear

Auralee

This shirt jacket is all about soft shape and a solid feel, made from real lambskin suede with neat seams and a laid-back fit. It has a spread collar and sturdy buttons, plus pockets that don’t try too hard. Wearing this, it’s clear the sheep did most of the heavy lifting—what we get now is pure comfort, dressed up with simple lines and a bit of edge. We like pieces that don’t mumble and this one speaks up without showing off.

Auralee

Auralee’s Soutien Collar Coat uses tweed made with wool, alpaca, and a hint of silk. It's got an easy shape that hangs below the knee, a strong raglan sleeve, and an inside that feels good to wear on cold days. The material is soft but keeps its size after we move, so it’s a coat that stays sharp all day long. If liking a coat for both how it looks and how it feels is wrong, we don’t want to be right.

WORKWEAR
Dickies Painter’s Pant

Dickies

We rely on these for tough jobs thanks to double knees and strong seams—even with kneeling, these do not quit. Tool loops and deep pockets hold what we need, and the roomy fit keeps us light on our feet. The crisp canvas is pure cotton so it wears in, not out. You can climb ladders or hit the crawlspace, and these still look right when you head home.

FORMAL WEAR
Slick Flat Front Trousers

Billy Reid

Billy Reid Chambray Flat Front Pant (Charcoal)

These pants use a cotton-linen cloth that feels light and smooth when we wear them. The slim fit, mid rise, and well-cut shape mean they work for just about any day, dressy or laid-back. You get a bit of raw-looking texture from the chambray, with a charcoal color that goes with so much in our closet. If we want to match it up, this pant lines up perfectly with the Chambray Chore Jacket.

Billy Reid Flannel Flat Front Trouser (Chocolate Heather)

These flannel trousers are all about the smart look and feel with a slim shape. Made from a blend of wool and silk, they sit just right at the waist and hold their color with a rich brown shade that’s easy to dress up. One neat thing here is the inside waistband ribbon and those tabbed pockets, small touches that make us reach for them for big moments. These pants work on their own or when we want to pair them with a matching jacket for bigger plans.

OFFICE WEAR
Korean Ting

Matin Kim

This cotton denim blazer has a soft worn-in look, with a brown shade and simple cut that keeps things cool for those who want some suit shape without all the fuss. There’s no stretch to the fabric, which means it stays sharp all day, and the lining is left out for a true denim feel. The front closure and pockets give a clean, not-too-serious style that fits right in at work or after hours. We like how it keeps its shape and gives our closet a break from the usual wool or navy.

Matin Kim

This jacket blends the shape of a bomber with a little of that classic trench feel in a soft beige cloth. You get a roomy fit, with enough give to move but still neat enough for the office. The ribbed trim and zip front keep it easy, while the washed look brings out the best of that “worn but not worn out” mood. We throw it on for rain or if our office AC keeps the place chilly, and it does the trick every time.

ONE LAST THING….
A Book about Barney’s

Amazon

I am unfortunately not old enough to have shopped at Barney’s, but this book by the founder’s grandson has been such a fascinating view of what in-store, multi-brand retail was like in its heyday. I stole a Barney’s jacket from home and it’s one of my favorite jackets ever. This store in Chelsea sounded so dynamic, tasteful, exhilarating. I can’t even fathom what it must been like to shut this behemoth down.

I spoke with a former menswear buyer for them today, and I really hope this format of retail will have a renaissance. Perhaps when we all get sick of online shopping. I’m aware that would mean TIM has to change fundamentally, and welcome that prospect. Enough with the 2D! Enough with the returns!

Have an awesome weekend, everyone.

As always, thanks for reading!
