Where Vests Work, Cowboy Lite & Aspirational Beachwear
EDITOR’S NOTE
Today is the Met Gala, where there will be plenty of men playing it safe in generic black tuxedos, and (hopefully) plenty who do not. Wednesday’s issue will touch on looks from the red carpet.
As another reminder, you can now click on photos in each section as they are directly linked to the products they display!
LUXURY
Marni Silk
Slipping into a matching silk set before jumping off your yacht in Palermo: these are the vibes I get from this floral silk set from Marni. It’s just such a flowy combination that still maintains complete functionality in that there is a chest pocket, belt loops, side seam pockets and a button fly. I’d wear these with fisherman’s sandals or Sabahs instead of that black shoe, but that’s just me.
STREETWEAR
On Vests
While the PEV (private equity vest) is a hard no, the vest as a whole is not something I villainize. Within the context of streetwear, it’s actually quite functional as a gap between outright jackets and thicker long sleeves, pullovers or shackets. In this Carhartt case, it’s a complement to a long sleeve. Moreover, the layering possibilities create opportunities for nuances in pattern and color combinations, and also just flow nicely in the wind when skating downhill.
WORKWEAR
The Western Shirt
The Western shirt is admittedly new to me, however I like it as a phase change from flannels or waffle shirts. All three fit into a category of shirt that can be layered or stand alone and feel equally grounded. Key features are the double breast pockets, snap buttons (🔥), and V-shaped yolk seen above the pockets. It works better untucked, I think, unless you want a full cowboy feel. This one from Faherty is a nice entry into the category.
FORMAL WEAR
Dalmatian-core Clark
Brain Dead and Clarks Originals collaborated on a new version of the Desert Nomad shoe. The design includes pony hair uppers, cow patterns, and a dark green nubuck leather heel patch. I’m picturing this with an ankle-cut straight black trouser, looking exquisite as the statement of your outfit. And if you’re asking me, this looks more Dalmatian puppy than cow. The shoes will be available for purchase on May 7.
OFFICE WEAR
A Versatile Trench
This waterproof trench coat from Percival is a versatile and well-made garment that has been a staple in their collection for over a decade. Made from a technical, breathable Italian cotton blend with a bonded backing to seal out water, it is designed, cut and sewn in Europe. The jacket features Percival's signature yellow binding and branding, and is a practical and stylish option for any winter to fall wardrobe. A few versions are on sale given the time of year, making it a good time to tap in.
ONE LAST THING….
Cute Duffle
Aptly named the Duffy, this miniature duffle is perfect. It could see gym usage, overnight stay action, even a call-up for light picnics. I want one so badly. Port Canvas has also made legendary tote bags since 1968 if you’re in the market.
